On Friday January 16, 2026, the student Boir James Akoi (Registration number UBa22EP133) of South Sudan nationality defended his PhD in the Department of Petroleum Engineering. It was the first ever PhD defense in NAHPI. The research work was entitled: "Oil field waste effect on the environment and post-remediation characterization of soils, the Thar-Jath, Mala and Unity oilfield block 5A, Muglad basins, South Sudan". The supervision team was made up of Prof Emmanuel Cheo Suh (P), Prof Fozao Kennedy Folepai (AP) and Prof Tsamo Cornelius (AP). The defense took place successfully on a satisfactory note for all the jury members on the panel.
