Mission of the Department

The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering seeks to build capacity in Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical and Food Process Engineering and provide innovative education in these STEM fields. It seeks to train individuals, vested with excellent technical and leadership skills and who are field-ready upon graduation. With sound academic training, hands-on experience and industrial attachments, graduates from the Department will readily engage relevant service industries to design and produce products that meet local and international market needs.

The Department currently offers the following degree programmes: Regular Programmes, Year 1 Entry: Reg. fees of 50,000 XAF/yr only

  1. Bachelor/Master of Engineering (B.Eng/M.Eng) in Biotechnology and Food Process Engineering (4/5 years)
  2. Bachelor/Master of Engineering (B.Eng/M.Eng) in Biomedical Engineering and Medical Equipment Maintenance (4/5 years)

Programmes envisaged in the near future for continuity:

  1. MSc in Food Process Engineering
  2. MSc in Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology
  3. MSc in Biomedical Engineering
    NB: Conversion from M.Eng, 1 year; full M.Sc, 2 year

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

First Year

  • Pass in Science Subjects at General or Technical GCE O/Level including Mathematics and English language (or English Language Proficiency test + at least two (2) Science Subjects at GCE A/Level.
  • Pass in Probatoire C, D, E, F1, F2, F3, F4, MISE or TIC + Baccalaureate General C and D.
  • Any other certificates recognized as equivalent by the Ministry of Higher Education.
  • Admission would be through a Competitive Entrance Examination.

Third Year

  • Applicants for admission must hold one of the following qualifications: University Diploma of Technology (UDT), Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) in relevant discipline or its equivalent or a Bachelor of Science in Physics, Chemistry, Geology, Applied Mathematics or Computer Science.

Master in Engineering (M. Eng.) (5 years)

  • Applicants for admission must hold a Bachelor of Engineering degree in relevant discipline or its equivalent.

Master of Science (M.Sc.) (6 years)

First Year

  • Applicants for admission must hold a Bachelor of Engineering Degree in relevant discipline or DIPET II in relevant discipline or its equivalent.

Second Year

  • Applicants for admission must hold a Professional Master of Engineering degree in relevant discipline or its equivalent.
  • Students are admitted into the First Year by a decision of the Minister of Higher Education and can proceed to a Master in Engineering degree while admissions into Master of Science shall be in accordance with the post graduate admissions regulations of The University of Bamenda.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

  • The student is expected to pass all the General University, School-wide and Core Courses, earning a minimum of 240 credits of course, laboratory and industrial work. To make up the minimum total number of credits for graduation, the student can choose courses in the electives categories as he/she wishes and under the supervision of the Department.
  • Student shall satisfy any other requirements that senate may prescribe.

Certificates Awarded

  • Bachelor of Engineering after Four (04) years which is equivalent to Diplôme d’Ingénieur de Travaux.
  • Master in Engineering after five (05) years which is equivalent to the Diplôme d’Ingénieur de Conception.
  • Master of Science after six (06) years.
